Building Success Together: Ofsted Highlights and Our Commitment to Excellence

Many learners will be aware that Side By Side Training recently underwent an Ofsted inspection. We are pleased to share a summary of the report, which highlights many strengths within the learning experience, alongside areas identified for further development – https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/provider/33/2526596

A Safe and Supportive Environment

Ofsted confirmed that safeguarding standards are met, noting an “open culture in which safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.” This ensures that all learners are able to feel safe, supported, and confident that any concerns will be addressed appropriately.

Strong Focus on Inclusion

Inclusion is identified as a key strength. Inspectors described a “highly inclusive and welcoming environment,” where staff understand individual needs and provide appropriate support. This approach enables learners to develop the knowledge and skills required to complete their courses and make valuable contributions within their workplaces.

Positive Experience for Adult Learners

Adult learners are reported to be developing “substantial new knowledge and skills” and producing work of a high standard. The majority complete their courses within the expected timeframe and feel well prepared for further study or career progression.

Apprenticeships: Strong Progress with Areas for Development

Apprentices are recognised as developing skills that support them in becoming effective practitioners in the workplace and valued by employers. However, Ofsted identified areas for improvement, particularly in relation to wellbeing, safety, and the clarity of careers guidance.

In response, we have already implemented a range of improvements. Health and wellbeing and careers information have always been embedded within the curriculum, however now these are standalone sessions – fortnightly Health and Wellbeing sessions and half termly Careers and Information Guidance (CIAG) sessions, facilitated by Chelle.   These practical sessions cover a wide range of topics, including nutrition, online safety and of course discussions around career opportunities and transferable skills in the sector. Also, in addition to the existing wellbeing newsletter, a safeguarding newsletter will be issued every two months, providing guidance to help learners remain safe and have an awareness of local news and threats. We believe the introduction of these new sessions and newsletter will enable learners to progress with increased confidence and clarity.

Side by Side Training remains committed to delivering high-quality training provision and welcomes feedback to support continuous improvement.

The Learning Experience

Learners and apprentices report that they benefit from a “highly supportive and nurturing environment.” Learners are recognised as motivated and enthusiastic and continue to grow in confidence as they apply their skills within real work settings.

Moving Forward

The report confirms that a positive learning experience is being delivered, with clear next steps identified to further enhance provision, particularly within apprenticeships. The organisation extends its appreciation to all learners for their ongoing commitment and contribution, which form a key part of this success. We’re delighted with the result!
