Theresa is the proud recipient of the Festival of Learning Southwest England Inspirational Tutor Award 2016. Her reputation, dedication, and professionalism in the education sector was recognised and rewarded for her outstanding achievements in adult learning and contribution to her community.
Theresa has worked in the childcare sector for 37 years. She started initially as a childminder and then gained her BTEC Nursery Nursing Diploma qualification. Working for a private nursery led to her being Headhunted to set up the nursery provision for a local prep school as Nursery Supervisor.
A further move found her in the position of Deputy Nursery Manager for Portsmouth University Nursery and then promotion to Nursery Manager for Safeway Creche Department. Advancement in her career soon followed in the role of Area Childcare Creche Manager, covering most of England and Wales. The take over of Safeway by Morrisons led to diversifying into the role of Human Resources Manager. During this time qualifying as an assessor and adult education trainer. Theresa then went on to accompany her husband on a military forces posting abroad, where she worked diligently with the children of naval families to help run the Loan Services Brownies Girlguiding unit. Whilst abroad, completed an Open University course in Employability Law. On her return to the UK with her passion for childcare reignited, worked as an agency nursery nurse and then as an assessor, tutor, in adult learning, specialising in childcare sector and training newly enrolled teaching assistants. Additionally, ran regular drop-in employability workshops, assisting learners with CV writing and interview techniques. She is known for her passion and commitment to supporting learners achieve their goals and aspirations, always striving to help them gain self-confidence for their emotional wellbeing.
Further self-development has enabled her to gain experience and qualifications as an Internal Quality assurer. This has led to successfully teaching and supporting learners to achieve their qualifications in assessment and quality assurance, in a variety of different areas of employment.
Her most recent accomplishments are in obtaining and implementing the new apprenticeship standards, as a qualified End Point Assessor.
In her spare time Theresa enjoys Pilates, attending group training in the gym and long walks with her family.
