The Side by Side Training team are delighted to welcome Zoe Terry on board to lead the new CACHE Level 3 Dental Nursing Programme. Zoe has worked locally within dental nursing for almost 30 years and is a well-respected practitioner. Alongside this, for the last 13 years, Zoe has taught and assessed associated qualifications as well as running her own training provision. With her wealth of experience, professional approach and bubbly nature, Zoe will fit in well with the Side by Side team.
Zoe has worked in dental nursing for 30 years. After leaving school she joined a small dental practice, passing the National Certificate for Dental Nurses in 1986.
Shortly after passing her exam she left general practice to work in the Oral Maxillo-Facial Unit at Poole General Hospital, and whilst there she obtained the Certificate in Dental Radiography and Oral Health Education.
In 2003 after completing the FAETC adult teaching certificate, Zoe started her teaching career delivering and assessing the NVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing for a training provider in Somerset. She completed the Cert Ed in 2005 and joined Weymouth College setting up a successful course for local nurses.
In 2009 Zoe launched her own training company National Training Solutions delivering the National Diploma in Dental Nursing and Certificate in Oral Health Education. Alongside the teaching and training she has continued to practice as a registered dental nurse gaining experience in orthodontics.
Zoe is now delighted that an exciting opportunity has arisen to deliver the CACHE L3 Diploma in Dental Nursing and she is looking forward to working in partnership with SBS Training.
Available from September 2017, the L3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice of Dental Nursing is practice-based so learners will need to be working in or on placement within a dental surgery. The qualification covers the current GCC learning outcomes and skills for Health National Occupations Standards and on completion it will enable learners to register with the GDC.
The qualification focuses on direct chair-side work and support during a range of dental treatments. It encompasses the underpinning ethics, professionalism, teamwork and communication required to work as a dental nurse.
Zoe and Side by Side will be offering the qualification as part of an apprenticeship. Apprentices will be fully supported to achieve over an 18 months’ course, delivered through a mix of daytime and evening workshops that will flex around the demands of busy dental practices.
Once completed learners may progress into employment as a Dental Nurse or to other career pathways including:
• dental hygiene and therapy
• dental technician
• practice management
• teaching and assessing
